Army 14 CBRN Regiment Troops successfully assisted the fire fighters in neutralizing the fire that occurred. After a fire broke out in a chemical storage facility in the Homagama industrial zone at around 2030 hrs on 17 Aug 2023. The factory consisted of various hazardous chemicals including high intensity chlorine and other hazardous substances. Due to the incident, there was a high risk for the fire to spread to other industrial chemical storages which would have created a high-risk situation.
Within a very short time 06 X 40 Troops of 14 CBRN Response Regiment of the Sri Lanka Army deployed to respond to a possible chemical hazard and evacuated the people effected by the fire and chemical gasses. Specially trained 01 x 15 quick reaction CBRN first responder team efficiently executed their task to create a safe zone for the fire fighters to control the situation without getting contaminated. The operation was conducted under the guidance of Chief Field Engineer with the supervision of the Commander Engineer Division.
