THE APPRECIATION OF ARMY BOMB DISPOSAL TEAMS BY CIVIL COMMUNITIES

The Bomb Disposal Teams of the Corps of Engineers conducted their operation within twenty-four hours to prevent another bomb blast in the country soon after the bomb attacks conducted by extremist terrorists on 21st April 2019 which dragged the country in to tense situation. It was highly effected to the livelihood and day to today activities including trading and the economy of the country.

The bomb disposal teams of Sri Lanka Corps of Engineer directly involved with the matter and they have conducted their operations with high skills and sophisticated equipment to secure the economically high value targets of the country and facilitate them to functioning their daily activities smoothly.

Colombo Tea Auction is the one of high value business which brings massive profits to the country where conduct in Cyclone Chamber of Commerce. The Bomb Disposal teams of Sri Lanka Corps of Engineer conducted their operations to secure the premises and built the confidence of Tea traders to continue their activities like tea auction without any disturbances even under tense situations of the country.

Colombo Tea Traders Association conducting weekly tea auctions a quantity of 7 million kilos of tea and they were selling at a total value of USA $ 35 million (Rs 6.1 billion) which is one of the biggest contributions to the national economy and that on an annual basis brings in USA $ 1.5 billion in foreign exchange to our country.

These activities would have highly disturbed with the terrorist attack. However, Colombo Tea Traders Association could continue the functions with the involvement of bomb disposal teams and it was highly appreciated by the local and foreign tea traders.

Bomb Disposal teams of Corps of Engineers directly involved through their primary task to gain massive economic benefits to the country during this period which is counted in millions of dollars. Nevertheless, Colombo Tea Traders Association had the interest to appreciate this commendable job of the Bomb Disposal teams and forwarded their proposals to the Commander of the Army for approval.

Colombo Tea Traders Association have decided to offer donations of two units of desktop computers and a television set as a welfare to the solders of Bomb Disposal Teams. They were handed over to Commander Engineer Brigade, Brigadier Nihal Amarasekara by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce on 21st April 2019 with the participation of all the high ranking officers of Ceylon Tea Traders.
