9 FIELD ENGINEER REGIMENT BECAME THE INTER UNIT RUGBY CHAMPIONS

The final tussle of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers Inter Unit Rugby Championship tournament, played on 16 March 2016 at Engineer Brigade Grounds, Boo Oya- VAVUNIYA, pushed 9 Field Engineer Regiment players to a resounding victory, beating the rival, 1 Field Engineer Regiment with 37 to 0 points. Lieutenant Colonel AHLG Amarapala psc SLE, Colonel Project - Engineer Brigade, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Lieutenant Colonel CD Wickramanayake WV SLE, Commanding Officer, 9 Field Engineer Regiment received the Chief Guest on arrival at the Engineer Brigade Grounds. Rugby’s popularity among both officers and soldiers has earned a niche for itself in the Sapper family and claims an admirable reputation for the organization, having produced a wide assortment of fine-tuned ruggerites who have hitherto made record victories at service level. The tournament began on 15 March 2016 and 9 Field Engineer Regiment displayed promising team effort in pulling off this impressive victory. The Chief Guest, Lieutenant Colonel Lanka Amarapala, Colonel Project-Engineer Brigade enthusiastically, witnessed the finals and after extending his warm congratulations to the winners presented the Championship Trophy to 9 Field Engineer Regiment players amidst a thundering applause. A gathering including Senior Sapper Officers, Sapper Officers and Other Ranks of spectators watched the final encounter.
