8 FIELD ENGINEER REGIMENT TRIUMPHS AT VESAK LANTERN COMPETITION ORGANIZED BY SECURITY FORCE HEADQUARTERS (WANNI)

The 8 Field Engineer Regiment SLE proudly secured first place in the Vesak Lantern Competition organized by Security Force Headquarters (Wanni), held from 12th to 15th May 2025. This event was part of the broader National Vesak Festival celebrations and saw participation from Infantry Division Headquarters, Brigade Headquarters, Regimental Centres, affiliated units, the Air Force Base Vavuniya, and the Vavuniya Police.

The annual Vesak Lantern Competition celebrates the birth, enlightenment, and parinirvana of Lord Buddha and is an occasion for military and civil communities in the region to come together in unity and devotion. Each participant showcased artistic creativity, spiritual expression, and dedication to cultural traditions through their unique lantern displays.

The 8 Field Engineer Regiment's entry stood out for its exceptional craftsmanship, symbolic design, and environmentally conscious construction. Crafted entirely from recycled and natural materials, the lantern highlighted the regiment’s commitment to sustainability and respect for Buddhist values. The design was not only visually striking but also conveyed a deep sense of peace, harmony, and reverence, earning high praise from both the judging panel and the audience.

This victory is a testament to the 8 Field Engineer Regiment’s discipline, teamwork, and innovative spirit. Their success in this prestigious event reflects their broader commitment to excellence, tradition, and national unity.
