Construction of new hockey ground at Pallekele was started on 25 July 2020, with the direction of the Commander of the Army, and the close supervision of the Army hockey committee.
As the unique Engineer Regiment under command to SF HQ (CEN) AOR, 6 Field Engineer Regiment was tasked for preparation of the hockey ground. After assuming the task, earth moving machines of 64 Plant Squadron swiftly employ to the location at 1 SLRC.
Cutting and filling of earth bund was done at the initial stage by well-trained sappers of 6 Filed Engineer Regiment. Then ground was graded and extra soil was transported. Ground leveling and compacting was done by simultaneously at the final stage. All the plant engineer works were completed and construction works to be complete near future.
This ground will be the official hockey ground for entire Sri Lankan Army in near future.
