A charming, yet a colourful ceremony held on Wednesday, 7th May 2014 at the Regimental Centre, Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers highlighted the joining of the youngest member to the Family of Sapper units. In order to meet the increasing demand of Sappers for construction related tasks at Defence Headquarter Complex project Battaramulla, 33 SLNG has been re-designated as 15(V)SLE as per the ARO 12/2014 raising instructions of the Army Headquarters. To mark this special occasion, a parade was held at the Regimental Parade Ground for which Maj Gen VUB Nanayakkara USP ndu Hdmc, Director, Project Management Unit, Defence Headquarters Complex Project attended as the Chief Guest.
After the Guard Turn-out, the Chief Guest and other senior Officers hoisted the Regiment and unit flags. 15(V) SLE flag was raised by Maj LM Haputhantri SLE, the Commanding Officer designated of the unit. Adding glamour to the event, a parade followed, symbolizing the raising of the new unit. The parade comprised of 33 SLNG Officers and Other Ranks reported to the Chief Guest honouring their willingness to wear badges and insignias of Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers. The Chief Guest presented the badges and insignias to all officers and cross section of Other Ranks to mark this ceremonial change over whiles RSMs and Senior NCOs of Corps of Engineers were dressing the other members of the parade. Tereafter Commanding officer and all troops of the 15 (v) SLE continued with the parade proceeding, displaying a high standard of drill.
After the parade, the Chief Gust addressed the troops of newly raised 15(V) SLE in the Lt Gen NKB Angammana Memorial Hall. A tea party was held at the ORs\' canteen providing an opportunity for the troops to have a friendly interaction with the Chief Guest and other senior Officers of the Corps. In concluding the event, the Chief Guest posed for a group photograph with Officers and Other Ranks of the newly raised 15(V) SLE.
