Major AU Hidallaarachchi RSP USP SLE officially assumed duties as the 18th Commanding Officer of the 8 Field Engineer Regiment on 28 September 2024, amidst formal military traditions. Upon his arrival at the regiment headquarters in Boo Oya, he was warmly welcomed by Major WASW Pieris RSP USP SLE, the Second-in-Command (Overlooking).
In keeping with military customs, the troops honoured the new Commanding Officer with a Guard Turnout upon his arrival at the main entrance. A brief religious ceremony was held in the Commanding Officer's office to invoke blessings on his new appointment. As a symbolic gesture, Major Asanka Hidallaarachchi planted a sapling at the regimental headquarters to mark the occasion.
During his address to all ranks, the Commanding Officer outlined his vision and objectives for the regiment. He emphasized the importance of maintaining discipline, professionalism, and teamwork to uphold the reputation of the regiment as the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers.
Additionally, he shared his plans to enhance the standards of military personnel, highlighting the significance of balancing service duties with family life. After the briefing, Major Asanka Hidallaarachchi joined the All-Ranks Tea, where he took the opportunity to engage with officers and soldiers alike, sharing his thoughts and expectations for the future of the regiment.
