Lieutenant Colonel W M A B Waranasooriya USP psc SLE relinquished his appointment as the 18th Commanding Officer of the 7 Field Engineer Regiment on 28 December 2025, marking the conclusion of a successful tenure with the regiment.
In accordance with regimental customs and traditions, the outgoing Commanding Officer was honoured with a Guard Turnout at the Main Entrance. This was followed by a Ceremonial Parade at the Parade Ground, attended by all ranks. Addressing the parade, Lieutenant Colonel W M A B Waranasooriya USP psc SLE expressed his sincere appreciation to officers, senior non-commissioned officers, and other ranks for their support, dedication, and teamwork throughout his tenure. He highlighted the collective achievements of the regiment and emphasized the continued importance of discipline, professionalism, and unity in meeting future challenges.
Following the ceremonial parade, a tea party was hosted at the Sappers’ Mess, providing an opportunity for officers and other ranks to interact with the outgoing Commanding Officer in a cordial and relaxed atmosphere. As a mark of respect and gratitude, mementos of appreciation were presented by all ranks in recognition of his leadership and service.
Lieutenant Colonel W M A B Waranasooriya USP psc SLE served as Commanding Officer from 09 May 2024 to 28 December 2025. During this period, the regiment achieved notable progress in operational readiness, training standards, and regimental cohesion. His tenure will be remembered for firm leadership, professionalism, and genuine concern for the welfare of all ranks.
