Considering the urgent requirement and to increase the treatment capacities of the country , troops of 12 Field Engineer Regiment under 612 Infantry Brigade tasked to convert the Jamiah Naleemiah Islamic Institute to an Intermediate Care Centre (ICC) to provide facilities for the treatment of Covid -19 patients. The buildings of the institute were taken over by Sri Lanka Army on 3rd May 2021. Currently, Jamiah Naleemiah ICC is holding the bed capacity of 430 and it operationally started on 13 May 2021 while admitting 13 x Covid patients from Kalutara District. Mainly all the administration and security are coordinated by the 12 Field Engineer Regiment.
In addition to above in support of preventing the Covid - 19 virus spread in the country the regiment runs Darga Town ICC and administrate 4 x star graded hotels as quarantine centres at Kalutara district. Sheer dedication and commitment of the sapper troops were appreciated by the ministers and government officials presented at the institution.
