Mrs Chithrani Gunaratne assumed duties as the new President of the Mechanized Infantry Ladies Club and the ceremony was held at the Officers Mess, Sri Lanka Artillery Regimental Centre, Panagoda on 1st March 2016. The Colonel of the Regiment Major General GDHK Gunaratne WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc and the Centre Commandant Colonel LS Balachandra RSP also participated to this event. Lighting of the traditional oil lamp by the new President and senior members of the Ladies Club marked the commencement of the day's proceedings.

A valuable set of books was donated to the library of the Mechanized Infantry Regimental Centre on 19 March 2016 by the Old Anandians 75 - 80 Group. The donation programme was implemented with the invitation of the Colonel of the Regiment Major General GDHK Gunaratne WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc to the Old Anandians 75 - 80 Group and the donation consisted of books on fictions, Non-Fiction, Educational, Biograpical, International Relations, Current Affaires etc.

The 9th Annual General Meeting of the Mechanized infantry ladies club was held at the officers Mess, Sri lanka Armed Corps, Rock House Camp with the participation of Mrs. Chithrani Gunaratne (President), Mrs. Nayana Balachandra (Secretary), Mrs. Nilanthi wanasinghe (Vice president), along with all other members including the lady wives of all senior and junior officer on 30th March 2016. Commanding the proceeding President Mrs.Chithrani Gunaratne welcome all the guest and members of the ladies club those who graced this occasion Reports of the last Annual Meeting and the budget report were presented by the secretary and treasurer respectively.

Ranaviru Udanaya - 2016 organized by the Mechanized Infantry Regiment was held on 2nd and 3rd July 2016 at the Gam Udawa Ground, Dambulla. This mega event is organized annually by the Regiment to obtain funds for various welfare projects of fallen and disabled war heroes and their families as well as to uplift the standard of the Regiment and Battalions in various constructions. Col of the Regiment Major General GDHK Gunaratne WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc and his spouse, Mrs Chithrani Gunaratne, President, Ladis Club - Mechanized Infantry Regiment were among those present at the occasion. This carnival was consisting with ICV exhibition, various entertainment sports, games, and stalls. Musical shows of most popular Music groups, dancing team and the singers decorated all the nights at the end of every day. The event was organized peacefully and successfully with high standard of security and discipline.

He was accorded with a Guard Turnout presented by the ceremonial guard of the MITC and warmly welcome by the Commandant - MITC.

A religious Programe and unveiling of the portrait of the First Colonel of the Regiment were conducted under the guidance of the Present Colonel of the Regiment Maj Gen GDHK Gunaratne WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc at the Headquarters of Mechanized Infantry Regiment on Friday 29 April 2016 to transfer merits for disabled soldiers, fallen war heroes, to invoke blessings serving troops and newly renovated Headquarter complex at Dambuluhalmillawewa. This programe included a Perahera, a Pirith serom followed by an alms giving.\r\n\r\nIt was also a memorable event for the Mechanized family that the First Colonel of the Regiment Major General SM De A Rajapaksha RWP RSP ndu Ldmc (Rtd) also visited the Regimental Headquarter at the invitation of the Colonel of the Regiment on Saturday, 30 April 2016.

Maj Gen GDHK Gunaratne WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc, Col of the Regt Mechanized Infantry visited the 2nd Bn the Mechanized Infantry Regiment (2 MIR) on 28th May 2016. He was accorded with a Guard Turnout presented by the ceremonial guard of the 2 MIR and warmly welcome by the CO - 2 MIR. The Col of the Regt addressed troops of 2 MIR and he was invited to plant a tree sapling to signify the symbolic memory of his visit to the place.

The Ladies Club - Mechanized Infantry Regiment organized a "Mal Dansela\" with distributing Lotus Flowers, Koththamali drink and Biscuts at religious functions were held on 19th June 2016 at Rangiri Dambulla Temple premises in conjunction with the National Poson Poya Celebrations.

The president Mrs. Chithrani Gunaratne and other members of the Ladies Club visited Abimansala III - Pangolla on 16 th July 2016 to share the happiness and interact with soldiers who were wounded in action. The Colonel of the Regiment Major General GDHK Gunaratne WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc and the Centre Commandant Colonel LS Balachandra RSP also participated to this event. There are 40 dependent War Heroes at the Abimansala III at Pangolla for lifetime care and rehabilitation. The members of the Ladies Club had an interaction with the Soldiers who were wounded in action and were presented gifts. The event was colorful with the Calypso musical programme which let the brave hearts entertained and followed by special lunch. Thereafter a weightlifting and exercise bench was donated to Abhimansala III by the Mechanized Infantry Ladies Club.
