The Sri Pada pilgrimage season, annually from December to May was started on “Uduwap Full Moon Poya Day” A series of religious activities to mark the beginning of the season will be held at the Sri Pada Raja Maha Viharaya temple in Galpoththaawala, Ratnapura.
Major General AC Lamahewa WWV RWP RSP, Colonel of the Regiment, made a battalion visits to the 6 GW, 11 GW, 17 GW, 19 GW, 23 GW, 2 (V) GW, 10 (V) GW, 15 (V) GW and 16 Volunteer
Battalion The Gemunu Watch. The visit started on 30 Oct 2022 and terminated on 03 Nov 2022.
During these visits, respective Commanding Officers warmly welcomed the visiting Colonel of the Regiment in accordance with military traditions before briefings were presented. Drive pass saluted him at respective camps and he joined sapling planting too afterwards.
The Regimental Council Meeting 4/2022 of The Gemunu Watch was held on 12 November 2022 at the Conference Hall, Regimental Centre of The Gemunu Watch under the patronage of Colonel of the Regiment, Major General AC Lamahewa WWV RWP RSP and the Centre Commandant Brigadier WBJK Wimalaratne RWP RSP and all council members were attended the regimental council meeting.
The tribute ceremony for the Gemunu Watch victorious unbeaten shooting Champions of Sri Lanka Army Inter Regiment Combat & Practical Shooting Competition - 2022 was held on 15 October 2022 at the Regiment Centre the Gemunu Watch. The Colonel of the Regiment Major General AC Lamahewa WWV RWP RSP graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
Major General Wajira Welagedara of the Gemunu Watch Regiment assumed duties as the new General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 24 Division amid religious blessings at the 24 Division Headquarters in Malwatte, Ampara on Monday (03).
The newly-appointed General Officer Commanding was warmly welcomed by Staff Officers and honoured in a Guard turnout. Afterwards, the new GOC signed a formal document at the auspicious minute and symbolized the official acceptance of the new appointment.
A lecture on ‘Drug Addiction and Prevention’ organized by the Regimental Centre the Gemunu Watch on the directions of the Centre Commandant Brigadier WBJK Wimalaratne RWP RSP on Wednesday (14) amalgamated with Wednesday training day programme.
Lecture assistance to the program was provided by the Rathnpura District Drug prevention and Educational coordinator and drug counselor Mrs Thilini Weerasekara.
The gathering was educated on the use of dangerous drugs and its harmfulness to health and mental well-being.

Maj Gen Wajira Welagedara RSP USP is a proud product of Dharmaraja College- Kandy, and having successfully completed his primary and secondary education, he joined the Sri Lanka Army Regular Force in 1988. Thereafter, he underwent training with the Intake 29 at the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa where he was commissioned in the rank of Second Lieutenant at the completion of basic military training and was posted to the 4th Battalion of the Gemunu Watch as a Platoon Commander.
Major RMRB Ratnayake RSP assumed duties as the 7th Commanding Officer 23rd Battalion the Gemunu Watch on 01 september 2022. A brief ceremony was held which included Religious observances and Troops Address in accordance with the heath protocol and guidelines of the Ministry of Health and the Army Headquarters.
Major HMR Hennayake RSP USP assumed duties as the 17th Commanding Officer 8th Battalion the Gemunu Watch on 29 August 2022. A brief ceremony was held which included Religious observances and Troops Address in accordance with the health protocol and guidelines of the Ministry of Health and the Army Headquarters.
