NEW COLONEL OF THE REGIMENT ASSUMED DUTIES

Maj Gen S W B Welagedara RSP VSV USP ndc assumed duties as the 24th Colonel of the Regiment of the Gemunu Watch on 22nd June 2023 in Regimental Centre of the Gemunu Watch, Kuruwita. Subsequently, on 24th June 2023 the remainder of the programme was commenced in accordance with the military traditions and religious observances, where new Colonel of the Regiment was honored with a Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honor.

NEW PRESIDENT OF SEVA VANITHA GEMUNU WATCH ASSUMES DUTIES

Mrs Manori Welagedara, beloved wife of Major General S W B Welagedara RSP VSV USP ndc, assumed duties as the new President of the Seva Vanitha Branch of the Gemunu Watch at the Regimental Centre on 22nd June 2023. The members of the Seva Vanitha Branch extended a warm welcome to the new President at the Regimental Center and extended best wishes for her new appointment.

GEMUNU SEVA VANITHA BRANCH CONSTRUCTED ANOTHER HOUSE FOR A SOLIDER

Sewa Vanitha branch of Gemunu Watch, along with the 1st Battalion the Gemunu Watch organized the construction of a house for a needy soldier which was ceremonially handed over to Infantryman Hewage HGC, a 1 GW soldier on 19 June 2023 by the President of the Seva Vanitha Branch Mrs. Shalika Edirisinghe. The main financial support for the project was given by sons and daughter of Mr Wijerathna Bandara Herath Ranmadugala, Asela Ranmadugala, Sajeewa Ranmadugala, Visuddika Ranmadugala and Sumendara Ranmadugala.

THE OUTGOING PRESIDENT OF THE GEMUNU WATCH SEVA VANITHA BRANCH HAND OVER THE DUTIES

The President of the Seva Vanitha Branch of the Gemunu Watch, Mrs. Shalika Edirisinghe handed over the duties to the incoming President of the Seva Vanitha Branch on 18th June 2023 at a simple ceremony held in the Seva Vanitha Branch Office at Regimental Centre of the Gemunu Watch, Kuruwita

During her tenure, she has rendered many services for the war heroes including the scholarship schemes for their children. Providing a shade for a needy war hero, donating of wheel chairs for disabled war heroes and commemoration of fallen war heroes.

FAREWELL CEREMONY FOR OUT GOING COLONEL OF THE REGIMENT MAJOR GENERAL EADP EDIRISINGHE psc ACCORDED MILITARY SALUTE

The farewell ceremony for Major General EADP Edirisinghe psc was held at the Regiment Centre on 18 June 2023 at the occasion of his retirement after completing over 34 years of successful service in the Sri Lanka Army.

The Regimental Centre welcomed the Chief Guest and invited him to review the Guard turnout at the entrance. Subsequently, the ceremonial commemoration of fallen soldiers took place at the monument. Then Chief Guest was accompanied to the salute of the proud, dignified parade at the Regimental parade Square.

GEMUNU WATCH LADIES DONATE WHEELCHAIR TO WAR HEROS

Gemunu Watch Seva Vanitha Branch under the leadership of the president, Mrs. Shalika Edirisinghe, organized the donated 3 wheelchairs, to needy disable soldiers on 17 June 2023. Two of the wheelchairs were sponsored by Mr Prajanitha Pushpakumara a businessman from Dubai, coordination with Brig Chaminda Galappaththi and Mrs Priyanka Galappathti and other was sponsored by Mr Jayanath de Silva who is from United Kingdom, coordination with L/Cpl Niluphar AHM – 12 GW.

FAREWELL NIGHT

The Regimental Centre ushered a Dinner Night on 16 June 2023 for retired Highlanders, Brigadier R B Benjamin RSP USP, Brigadier A M S Premawansa RWP RSP USP and suppose to retire Brigadier A M Muttalib. Colonel of the Regiment of the Gemunu Watch Maj Gen E A D P Edirisinghe psc, delivered the customary farewell speech on behalf of all Officers of the Gemunu Watch to extend the deep sense of gratitude and appreciation of the service of these senior officers .

SEVA VANITHA THE GEMUNU WATCH PRESENTS POSON DEVOTIONAL SONGS

The Seva Vanitha branch Gemunu Watch marked Poson Poya Day by staging the Poson Bathi Gee Saraniya on 3 June 2023 at the Edandawela Junction, Kuruvita. The members of the Gemunu Watch Seva Vanitha branch and their children and officers of the regiment,participated in the Bethi Gee and the event was coordinated with the assistance of the Regimental Center. The GOC 14 Division, Maj Gen Roshan Jayamanna RSP, Center Commander Brig Janak Wimalarathne RWP RSP, the officers and the soldiers of the regiment, invitees, well-wishers and a large number of people witnessed the event.

THE REGIMENTAL CENTER IS NOURISHED WITH FRUITS AND SPICES PLANTING

As per the concept of Colonel of the Regiment, Major General Prasad Edirisinghe psc, The Regimental Centre the Gemunu Watch launched a fruits and spices tree planting campaign in 21 May 2023 at the camp premises with the participation of the staff and troops. Colonel of the Regiment inaugurated the programme and total number of 160 fruit and spices plants wereplanted at the event and dedication of the growth of the plants for individualsis significant in the programme.
