ARMY CHIEF VISITS THE REGIMENTAL HEADQUARTERS OF THE GEMUNU WATCH

Security Forces - West organized an event in the Ratnapura and Kegalle districts bringing together retired War Veterans and their families on 02 June 2024. The primary objective was to assess their wellbeing and address administrative issues they may have encountered. Hon. Premitha Bandara Tennakoon, the State Minister of Defence, honored the occasion as the chief guest.
The administrative inspection of the Gemunu Watch (GW) was conducted by Major General W.H.K.S Peiris RWP RSP VSV USP ndu, Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army and Colonel of the Regiment of the Gajaba Regiment at the Regimental Centre the GW on 31 May 2024.
The Colonel of the Regiment of Gemunu Watch Major General S.W.B Welagedara RSP VSV USP ndc, assumed office as the new Director General Infantry at Directorate of Infantry at the Army Headquarters on 08 May 2024 during a brief ceremony.
After brief religious observances, the newly-appointed Director General Infantry left his signature in an official document, signifying the acceptance of his new office.
Prior to this new appointment, he served as the General Officer Commanding, 51 Infantry Division.
Major General W.B.J.K Wimalaratne RWP RSP of the Gemunu Watch assumed duties as the 34th General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 51 Infantry Division in Kopay on Monday (06 May 2024).
The newly appointed GOC of the 51 Infantry Division was warmly welcomed by Staff Officers on his arrival and according him a Guard Turnout and Guard of Honour by the troops of 17th Battalion the Gemunu Watch.
Major General P.K.S Nandana RSP USP psc, Director General, Directorate of Training, Army Headquarters, marked his retirement after an illustrious career spanning 33 years. In recognition of his dedicated service, the Senior Officer, was invited to the Office of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, on 30 April 2024.
On March 24, 2024, veterans of the Gemunu Watch convened in the 5th Battalion of the Gemunu Watch for a get-together. This brought together many retired officers and others from various ranks. During the gathering, a variety of administrative concerns facing retired personnel were discussed. The Colonel of the Regiment, Major General SWB Welagedara RSP VSV USP ndc, Centre Commandant Brigadier HCL Galappathti RSP USP, senior officers, and officers attended the event.
The Gemunu Watch Seva Vanitha Branch and The Regimental Centre held a remembrance service for fallen war heroes on March 23, 2024, at the Wellawaya War Heroes Memorial. The celebration included a particular respect to their parents, spouses and children. Families of deceased Gemunu Watch War Heroes from Ampara, Monaragala, and Badulla districts attended the occasion. The ceremony began with a moment of silence in honour of the departed warriors.
The Gemunu Watch (GW), a highly regarded regiment in the Army, marked its 36th anniversary on March 19th at Regimental Headquarters in Kuruwita, Rathnapura.
Commemorative programmes were started under the direction of Colonel of the Regiment and the General Officer Commanding 51 Infantry Division, Major General Wajira Welagedara RSP VSV USP ndc.
The military funeral of Major General W.H.M. Manatunga (Rtd) of the Gemunu Watch (GW), who had served the country for more than 34 years, took place on 24 March 2024 at Borella general cemetery.
Troops, in accordance with military traditions, received the remains, presenting arms near the entrance to the cemetery before placing the coffin in the gun carriage, draped in the National flag.
