SRI PADA SEASON DRAWS TO AN END; THE GEMUNU TROOPS PARTICIPATED FOR RELIGIOUS CEREMONY AND PERAHERA FROM SRI PADA TO PALABADDALA

The Sri Pada pilgrimage season which continued for six months draws to an end on Vesk Poya Day on with a religious ceremony held at the summit under the auspices of the Pelmadulla Rajamaha Vihara and Sri Pada Chief incumbent the Ven. Bengamuwe Dammadinna Thero, who is also the Chancellor of Uva Wellassa University.

THE GRATE HIGHLANDER ASSUMED DUTIES AS 52ND CHIEF OF STAFF OF SRI LANKA ARMY

The Colonel of the Regiment, Major General WBDP Fernando RWP RSP USP psc assumed duties as the 52nd Chief of Staff (COS) of the Sri Lanka Army on 29 March 2018, succeeding Major General Amal Karunasekara who was retired from the service a few days ago.

The name of this Highlander is undoubtedly a shining star in Gemunu Watch history. Spectrum of victory out of his achievements in his proud career, he was serving as the Deputy Chief of Staff at the Army Headquarters before he was appointed as the Chief of Staff. He is the 7th Chief of Staff, produced by the Gemunu Watch.

CONDUCT AN ONE DAY EDUCATIONAL PROGRAME ON DANGEROUS DRUGS AND DRUGS CONTROL

The Regimental Centre the Gemunu Watch organized one day Educational Programe on Dangerous Drugs and Drugs Control on 29 March 2018 at Regimental premises according to the direction of the Colonel of the Regiment, Major General WBDP Fernando RWP RSP USP psc.
The Dangerous Drugs and Drugs Control programme was conducted by the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board as per the request made by Regimental Centre and it unfolded as follows.

EDUCATIONAL OUTLET OF THE SRI LANKA ARMY AT THE 132TH ANNIVERSARY OF KIRIELLA CENTRAL COLLEGE

The Educational exhibition organized by Kiriella Central College to mark it’s 132th anniversary was held from 20 to 22 March 2018. As per the instruction given by AHQ, the Gemunu Watch has established an outlet containing Army history including former Army Commanders, Regiments, weapon and equipments use by the Army during the operations and the duties of post war situation by displaying photos.

THE COMMANDER OF THE ARMY MAIDEN VISITS TO THE REGIMENTAL CENTRE, THE GEMUNU WATCH

The Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, Lieutenant General N U M M W Senanayake RWP RSP USP USACGSC has marked his maiden visit to the Regimental Centre, the Gemunu Watch on 21 March 2018.

Colonel of the Regiment, Major General WBDP Fernando RWP RSP USP warmly welcomed the Commander of the Army and invited to review the Guard turnout at the entrance and accompanied to take the salute of the Gemunu Watch Guard of Honour. Then, planting of sapling and ceremonial commemoration of fallen war heroes at the monument were taken place to make the event more colourful and traditional.

AWARENESS LECTURE ON CULTIVATION OF MEDICINAL PLANTS

A lecture on subjected matter was held on 6 March 2018 at the Regiment Centre. It was conducted by Professor Piyal Marasinghe (Adviser Medicinal Plants Cultivation, Medical Plants Scientists of Associate Professor Adviser Provincial Ministry of Health and Indigenous Medicine Uva Province) on the invitation of Centre Commandant of the Gemunu Watch. The session was basically organized to educate Army personnel on importance of cultivation, protection and maintenances of local Medicinal plants .
