21ST THE GENERAL MEETING OF GEMUNU WATCH EX-SERVICEMEN’S REGIMENTAL ASSOCIATION

The 21st Annual General Meeting of Gemunu Watch Ex-Servicemen’s Regimental Association (GWESRA) was held on 11 March 2018 at the Regimental Center of the Gemunu Watch at Kuruwita. The event was organized by the GWESRA exco and was authorized by the Colonel of the Regiment, Major General WBDP Fernando RWP RSP USP psc and it unfolded as follows.

  • Arrival of the Members of the GWESRA

  • Breakfast

  • Commemoration ceremony of the Fallen War Heroes - Monument

  • Annual General Meeting - Lecture Hall

STUDY TOUR OF OFFICER CADETS TO REGIMENTAL CENTRE THE GEMUNU WATCH

A team consisting of 62 Officer Cadets of Intake 85 and 86 presently under training at the Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA) Diyatalawa visited Regimental Centre the Gemunu Watch on 3 March 2018 as per the course curriculum of the SLMA in order to gain broader knowledge on history, roles and tasks and functions of regimental headquarter.

INTER BATTALION KARATE CHAMPIONSHIP - 2018

The Inter Battalions Karate Championship - 2018 of the Gemunu Watch was held at the Regimental Centre on 28 Feburary 2018 with the participation of senior officers and CO’s and Battalion representatives. The event was organized under guidance and supervision of Colonel of the Regiment, Major General WBDP Fernando RWP RSP USP psc. In the absence of Col of the Regt due to unavoidable circumstances, Brig W H M Manatunga graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

PILGRIMAGE TO SRI PADA BY WAR HEROES

A pilgrimage to Sri Pada for war heroes organized by Ven. Daranagam Sumanarathna Thero being desplyed for the 18th consecutive year was held on 16th to 17th February 2018. As per the instructions given by AHQ, the Gemunu Watch troops facilitated in accompanying of 30 total no of war heroes consisting 15 complete disabled war heroes and 15 partly disabled ones on the pilgrimage.The organizing committee headed by Ven. Daranagam Sumanarathna Thero and 200 members of Dayaka Saba also took part in the event to assist the retinue.

EDUCATIONAL OUTLET OF THE SRI LANKA ARMY ON THE 70TH ANNIVERSARY OF DEHIOWITA NATIONAL COLLEGE

The Educational exhibition organized by Dehiowita National College to mark it’s 70th anniversary is being held from 21 to 25 February 2018. As per the instruction given by AHQ, the Gemunu Watch has established an outlet containing Army history including former Army Commanders, Regiments, weapon and equipments use by the Army during the peace support operations and the duties of post war situation by displaying photos.

WORKSHOP ON DEVELOP MENTAL AND SPIRITUAL HEALTH OF ARMY SOLDIERS AND THEIR FAMILIES

The Regimental Centre, the Gemunu Watch joined hands with the Directorate of Psychological Operations to conduct a workshop on “Develop Mental and Spiritual Health of Army Soldiers and Their Families” according to the direction and guidance of the Colonel of the Regiment, Major General WBDP Fernando RWP RSP USP psc on 15 February 2018 at the Regimental Centre premises.

CONDUCT AN AWARENESS PROGRAME ON HIV AND SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DESEASE (STD)

The Regimental Centre the Gemunu Watch organized awareness programe on HIV and Sexually Transmitted Desease (STD) according to the direction of the Colonel of the Regiment, Major General WBDP Fernando RWP RSP USP psc on 14 February 2018 at regimental premises.

The STD/AIDS control programme was conducted by the STD/AIDS control unit of the General Hospital Rathnapura as per the request made by Regimental Centre.

OFFERING AN ALMS GIVING FOR SAMANERA THEROS OF BOPATHTHA ENGLISH MEDIUM PIRIWENA AT EHELIYAGODA

The Officers and other ranks of Regimental Centre of the Gemunu Watch attended for religious and alms merit ceremony for 54 Buddhist Samanera Theros of Bopaththa English Medium Piriwena according to the direction of the Colonel of the Regiment on 08 January 2018 at the Regimental Centre premises.

The programe was arranged according to the request made by Student Buddhist Theros of the Bopaththa English Medium Piriwena in Eheliyagoda, to gain the experience to visiting an Army camp.
