The Regimental Centre the Gemunu Watch organized awareness programe on HIV and Sexually Transmitted Desease (STD) according to the direction of the Colonel of the Regiment, Major General WBDP Fernando RWP RSP USP psc on 14 February 2018 at regimental premises.
The STD/AIDS control programme was conducted by the STD/AIDS control unit of the General Hospital Rathnapura as per the request made by Regimental Centre.
The Deputy Centre Commandant welcomed the resource personal Doctor Darshani Mallikarachchi, specialist and consultant in sexual transmitted desease and her team on behalf of the Colonel of the Regiment, Centre Commandant and all Officers and ORs of the Gemunu Watch.
The awareness programe immensely help to improve the knowledge of the Officers and ORs regarding sexually transmitted deseases. During the lecture session, the team conducted collecting of blood samples to test for HIV/AIDS and more than 100 soldiers attended for this purpose.
More than ten Officers, including the Deputy Centre Commandant, senior and junior Officers and approximately 225 Other Ranks participated for this event. All the participants highly appreciated the contributions and assistance made by the STD/AIDS control unit of General Hospital Rathnapura for this educative programe.
