INTER BATTALIONS NOVICES ATHLETIC CHAMPIONSHIP-2018

The closing ceremony of the Inter Battalions Novices Athletic Championship - 2018 of the Gemunu Watch and award of trophies for winners, took place at the Mahinda Rajapaksha Stadium, Diyagama on Friday (19 Jan) evening with all the po mp and ceremony of a high standard sports event.

Major General WBDP Fernando RWP RSP USP psc, the Colonel of the Regiment was graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

Generating glimmers of new hopes to the field of athletics more than 600 athletes, competed in the Inter Battalions Novices Athletic Championship - 2018 of the Gemunu Watch which began on Thursday (18 Jan)

11 GW shone brilliantly securing the first place with 112 points while 6 GW and 16(V) GW become the second and third place respectively in the championship with scoring 104 and 100 points.

The Athletic meet Comprised of track and field events had been organized this year with elaborate arrangements under the personal supervision of Major General KPA Jayasekera WWV RSP USP ndc psc, General Officer Commanding of the 22 Division and the Chairman of Athletic Committee of the Gemunu Watch.

The colourful Band display and the march-pasts added glamour to the closing ceremony together with sports fans thronged the stadium.

Towards the end of the day’s event, the Chairman of the athletic committee awarded trophies and the medals to the competitors who excelled in different fields of athletics.
