The Sri Lanka School of Military Engineering (SLSME) achieved a landmark milestone in modernising military education through the virtual inauguration of its smart classroom, officiated by Major General DKSK Dolage USP nps psc, the Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army and the Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, at the invitation of Colonel JACS Jagoda psc, the Commandant of SLSME on 11 January 2026. This advanced facility, equipped with smart board, modern PA system and high speed connectivity which is designed to deliver immersive, technology enhanced training that seamlessly integrates traditional engineering principles with contemporary digital solutions, thereby aligning the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers professional development with global best practices in military engineering education.
During the virtual opening ceremony, the Colonel Commandant delivered an inspiring address. He commended the visionary leadership of the Commandant and the dedicated staff of SLSME and he highlighted the importance of using modern technology to improve problem solving skills, tactical planning, and real time decision making abilities of trainees. Senior officers and other participants virtually witnessed impressive live demonstrations of the advanced features of the smart classroom. These included delivering lectures from the updated handbooks and accessing the internet in real time to support interactive and dynamic teaching. This important development reflects the Sri Lanka Army’s strong commitment to adopting new technology in order to maintain its operational advantage in today’s increasingly complex security environment.
The establishment of this smart classroom is a forward-thinking investment in the future of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers. By creating a modern “SMART” learning environment that promotes innovation and adaptability, SLSME is preparing Sappers who are not only highly skilled in technology but also capable of adapting to changing global challenges.
