SLSME WELCOMES 2026 WITH ALL-NIGHT PIRITH CHANTING AND ALMS GIVING CEREMONY

The Sri Lanka School of Military Engineering (SLSME) ushered in the New Year with profound spiritual significance through an all-night Pirith chanting ceremony on 31 December 2025, followed by a morning Alms giving on 01 January 2026. The event was organized under the initiative of Colonel JACS Jagoda psc, Commandant of SLSME and the event saw heartfelt participation from Officers, Other Ranks, and their beloved families creating a strong sense of unity and shared devotion within the military community.

The ceremony took place in the newly built Major General Janaka Perera Memorial Auditorium at SLSME. Throughout the night, ‘Maha Sangha’ chanted protective pirith and their sacred verses filled the air and brought a sense of calm and reverence. The main purpose of the event was to invoke blessings for the entire Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, the Sri Lanka Army, and all citizens of the country. This reflected the deep commitment of SLSME to the well-being of the nation and its people.

As dawn broke on New Year's Day, the programme gracefully concluded with an Alms-giving where the community offered alms to the participating ‘Maha Sangha’ in an act of generosity and gratitude. Special invocations were made for those affected by the recent Cyclone ‘Ditwah’ disaster, as well as for the heroic soldiers who sacrificed their lives and the disabled veterans from the past war era, honouring their invaluable contributions to the nation's freedom. Through such initiatives SLSME continues to nurture spiritual resilience alongside military excellence, strengthening bonds and morale as the institution serves the motherland with renewed dedication in 2026.
