The dawn of the Year 2026 and the commencement of the first working day were ceremonially marked with military formalities at the Regimental Centre, Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, on 01 January 2026, under the patronage of Colonel R M Subasinghe RSP, the Centre Commandant, SLE.
The proceedings commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag by the Centre Commandant, followed by the hoisting of the Engineers Flag by Colonel K A D P Sugathadasa USP, the Deputy Centre Commandant. The solemn occasion was further enriched by the singing of the National Anthem and the Army Song as the flags were hoisted to full mast.
A poignant highlight of the ceremony was the observance of a two-minute silence in remembrance of the fallen War Heroes who made the supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation.
Subsequently, all ranks reaffirmed their commitment to national and environmental responsibilities by taking the oath, after which the Regimental Adjutant delivered the New Year greeting message of the Commander of the Army.
The formal proceedings concluded with a traditional All Ranks Tea, fostering camaraderie among the participants, including Staff Officers, Senior Non Commissioned Officers, Non-Commissioned Officers, Sappers, and civilian staff attached to the Regimental Centre. This gathering provided an opportunity to strengthen bonds and set a positive tone for the year ahead.
