The Narcotic Detection Dog Handler Course 01/2025 officially commenced on 03 November 2025, a six-month specialized training program to drug trafficking by integrating highly skilled Narcotic Detection Dog (NDD) teams into the Army's operational framework.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by Brigadier C D Wickramanayake WV RSP ndc, Chief Field Engineer of the Sri Lanka Army, who delivered the keynote address.
He underscored the future importance of this training as a strategic force multiplier in the national anti-narcotics effort. He specifically praised the crucial collaboration between regiments, which is essential for mounting a powerful, unified response to modern security challenges.
The course consist with 04 ORs from Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers (SLE) & 4 ORs from the Sri Lanka Army Corps of Military Police (SLACMP). The comprehensive course is structured into two demanding phases, with the initial phase being directly conducted and managed by the 14 CBRNE Response Regiment:
1. Phase I: Obedience (3 Months) – Conducted by 14 CBRNE Response Regiment:
2. Phase II: Narcotic Detection (3 Months) – At Asgiriya Police Kennel: Following the foundational training, the teams will transition to specialized narcotic detection training at the Police Kennel, focusing on advanced scent discrimination using live samples.
