The closing ceremony of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Level 1 Course was held on 19 September 2025 with great pride and significance. The event was graced by the chief guest, Ms. Jayne Howell – the Deputy Chief of Mission of the United States Embassy in Sri Lanka. Distinguished dignitaries who participated included Senior Defence Official and Defence Attachè- Lieutenant Colonel Matthew House, Office of Defense Cooperation Chief - Lieutenant Commander Ros Lary, Mr. Dustin Bickel and Chief Field Engineer of Sri Lanka Army - Brigadier CD Wickramanayake WV RSP ndc. The guests were warmly welcomed by the Commandant of the Sri Lanka School of Military Engineering - Colonel JACS Jagoda psc.
In recognition of the successful completion of the two-month intensive training, the chief guest presented certificates to the course participants. This EOD Level 1 Course was conducted by the United States Army Pacific training team in close collaboration with the Sri Lanka School of Military Engineering reflecting a strong bilateral partnership.
In her address, Ms. Howell emphasized that the programme symbolises the enduring partnership between the two Armies, aimed at enhancing professional competence, strengthening bonds and most critically, safeguarding lives from the dangers posed by Unexploded Ordnance and Improvised Explosive Devices. Following the ceremony, an HMA equipment display demonstrated the various types of EOD devices donated by USARPAC, offering insight into the advanced technologies and techniques deployed to counter explosive threats.
The conclusion of this course marks not only the achievement of individual participants but also reinforces the vital collaboration between the United States and Sri Lanka armed forces. This partnership is a cornerstone for building capacity, enhancing operational readiness and fostering mutual trust in addressing the persistent challenges of explosive threats. The shared dedication to professional excellence and the protection of lives underscores the profound impact of joint training initiatives like this EOD Level 1 Course, paving the way for continued cooperation and a safer future for both nations.
