Sri Lanka Army Engineer Division organized a comprehensive leadership programme on 15 March 2025 for the 50 prefects of Dharmaraja Maha Vidyalaya - Colombo, accompanied by five teachers including the vice principal. The event, aimed at fostering leadership qualities and enhancing teamwork, was held at the Mattegoda Engineer Division Camp premises.
The programme began with an insightful leadership lecture, where the prefects were introduced to essential leadership principles, strategies for effective decision-making, and techniques to motivate and inspire their peers. Following the lecture, the students participated in various leadership-building and team cohesion activities. These exercises were designed to challenge the prefects in a supportive, team-oriented environment. Through group tasks and problem-solving activities, the prefects were able to hone their communication skills, strengthen their ability to collaborate.
A key highlight of the programme was the Dining Etiquette lecture, which was conducted to teach the prefects proper dining behavior in formal settings. Understanding dining etiquette is an essential part of leadership, as it enhances confidence in social interactions and provides a sense of professionalism. After the lecture, a practical correct dining session was held, where the prefects had the opportunity to apply what they had learned. This session helped reinforce the importance of manners, posture, and conversation skills during formal meals, ensuring that the students were well-prepared for any professional or social events in the future.
The involvement of the Sri Lanka Army Engineer Division added a unique dimension to the programme with their experience in coordination, discipline, and teamwork, the military leaders provided the students with practical insights into leading under pressure, making decisions quickly, and working effectively in teams.
