SAPPERS’ ‘BAKMAHA ULELA – 2025 & AWURUDU POLA’ SHINES BRIGHT AT THE HOME OF SAPPERS

The Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers celebrated its annual ‘Bakmaha Ulela & Awurudu Pola – 2025’ with enthusiasm and grandeur at the Home of Sappers in Mattegoda on 10th April. The event, a prelude to the Sinhala and Tamil New Year, brought together officers, soldiers, civil staff, and their families to partake in a vibrant celebration that showcased the rich cultural traditions of Sri Lanka and the strong camaraderie within the Corps.

Gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest, Major General Lanka Amarapala RWP RSP ndc psc, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army and Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, attended the festivities along with Mrs. Surangi Amarapala, President of the SLE Seva Vanitha Branch.

A notable highlight of the event was the distribution of cash incentives valued at Rs. 10,000 each to 88 civilian staff members, a gesture reflecting the Corps’ commitment to supporting its extended family during the festive season under the guidance of the Colonel Commandant.

The much-anticipated ‘Awurudu Pola’ featured a wide variety of concessionary items, including dairy products, vegetables, fruits, traditional sweets, clothing, footwear, and plants, catering to the diverse festive needs of attendees at highly affordable prices.

The celebration also featured traditional games, cultural performances, and live music, creating a joyful atmosphere that honored Sri Lanka’s cultural heritage and traditions. The day concluded with the awarding of gifts and trophies to winners of various competitions, recognizing their active participation and spirited involvement. More than a mere celebration, the event exemplified the unity and resilience of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, strengthening the bonds within the Sapper family.
