In a heart-warming gesture exemplifying the spirit of service and compassion, Major General Lanka Amarapala RWP RSP ndc psc, Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, presided over the housewarming ceremony of a newly-constructed house for a deserving family on Sunday, 19th January 2025 in Kalugahathenna, Kurunegala.
This significant initiative was directed by the dynamic guidance of Major General Lanka Amarapala and Mrs. Surangi Amarapala, President of the SLE Seva Vanitha Branch. The project was generously funded by renowned singer, songwriter, and BNS Co-founder, Mr. Bathiya Jayakody, in heartfelt commemoration of his father, late Major General Nihal Jayakody, on his 25th death anniversary with a kind heart and a blessing to his father’s soul with a good deed.
Following traditional religious observances, Mr. Bathiya Jayakody, accompanied by Mrs. Mohini Jayakody, the beloved wife of the late Major General Nihal Jayakody, and their family members, symbolically handed over the keys of new home to the beneficiary. This heartfelt gesture marked a meaningful milestone in this compassionate initiative.
The house was built for Sapper Kalugahathenna Y G S K of 1 Field Engineer Regiment and his family, who got wounded in action during the Humanitarian Operation in 2007. The construction works of this welfare project was carried out with the unwavering dedication of troops from the 1 Field Engineer Regiment, under the expert supervision of Major Gayan Somakeerthi USP psc SLE, Commanding Officer of the 1 Field Engineer Regiment. This initiative reflects the Corps' proud tradition of enhancing the well-being of its personnel and their families.
This remarkable effort stands as a testament to the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers' enduring commitment to enhancing the well-being of its members. It also serves to strengthen the bonds of camaraderie and mutual care within its ranks, embodying the Corps' values of service and unwavering support.
