Major General Lanka Amarapala RWP RSP ndc psc, Commander Security Forces (West) and Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, formally inaugurated the newly constructed headquarters building of the Sri Lanka Army Engineer Division as Chief Guest in a ceremonial event on 9th November.
Complying with military traditions, the Colonel Commandant was honored with a Guard Turnout at the main entrance and warmly received by Brigadier S P G Gamage RWP RSP USP, General Officer Commanding of the Sri Lanka Army Engineer Division. The inauguration was marked by a series of traditional ceremonies, including religious blessings by the Maha Sangha, a symbolic ribbon-cutting, the unveiling of a commemorative plaque, and the ceremonial boiling of milk to signify auspicious beginnings.
The new headquarters building fulfills a prerequisite infrastructure requirement for the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, providing an upgraded facility designed to support both officers and other ranks within the Engineer Division. This enhanced structure facilitates seamless coordination and communication with affiliated organizations and institutions on critical operational and administrative matters.
Following the formal proceedings, the Colonel Commandant recorded his appreciation in the visitors’ book and posed for a group photograph. This event was attended by Major General K A N Rasika Kumara ndc psc, Director General Media and Psychological Operations and Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Engineer Services, Major General D B L Colonne USP, Major General T C Peiris RSP USP, the Chief Field Engineers of the Sri Lanka Army, Colonel H K P Karunathilaka RSP, Commander Field Engineer Brigade, Colonel K A S J Kodithuwakku USP ptsc, Commander Plant Engineer Brigade along with Council Members, Senior Officers and Officers of the Corps. The day concluded with an all-ranks tea, during which a special memento was presented to the Colonel Commandant in recognition of his dedication and leadership in bringing the project to fruition.
This new headquarters building is a significant milestone for the Sri Lanka Army Engineer Division, reflecting the dedication to supporting the operational needs of the Corps and ensuring its continued success in the future.
