The military funeral of Captain P H T T Abeyrathne SLE was held on Thursday, 11 December 2025, with military honours, in the presence of a large gathering of military personnel, dignitaries, and mourners who came together to honour his dedicated service to the nation.
Capt Tharanga Abeyrathne SLE joined the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force on 01 July 2021 under Intake DE 2021/II. Upon completing his Basic Military Training at the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa, he was posted to the 4 (V) Engineer Regiment, SLE on 22 February 2022.
He served as a Troop Commander at the 4(V) Engineer Regiment SLE and later as a Project Officer at the Sri Lanka School of Military Engineering. At the time of his passing, he was serving as the Geotech Officer at the Sri Lanka Army Engineer Division and passed away on 08 December 2025 following an accident.
Major General D K S K Dolage USP nps psc, Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army and Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, visited the residence prior to the funeral day and paid his respects to the late officer.
Brigadier C D Wickramanayake WV RSP ndc, Chief Field Engineer, Colonel R M Subasinghe RSP, Centre Commandant SLE, together with Senior Officers, Officers, and Other Ranks, paid their final respects as the late officer was laid to rest with military honours.
