The Field Engineer Brigade proudly celebrated the State Vesak Festival from May 12 to 13, 2025, under the national theme “Bhajetha Miththe Kalyane – Bhajetha Purisuththame” (Associate with Noble Friends of Virtue). This spiritual and cultural event was organized under the guidance of the Commander of the Field Engineer Brigade and with the support of the 8 Field Engineer Regiment.
The Vesak Kalapaya, the central feature of the celebration, was ceremonially opened by Colonel T. M. Piros Jalal, Colonel Project of the Field Engineer Brigade. The opening ceremony was marked by the lighting of 350 traditional oil lamps, symbolizing the dispelling of darkness and the illumination of wisdom. Three colorful Vesak lanterns, crafted with care and creativity, added a vibrant glow to the festival atmosphere.
The Field Brigade, including the Demining Section, K9 Section, Workshop Squadron, and the 8 Field Engineer Regiment, played a significant role in the preparation of the Vesak lanterns. Their collective effort showcased the unity and devotion of the military personnel in upholding cultural and religious traditions.
To further enhance the spirit of Vesak, the Brigade also organized Dansal as a gesture of compassion and generosity. On May 12, a Beli Mal tea Dansala was held, followed by a Chickpea Dansala on May 13. Both events saw a large number of civilians and military personnel in attendance, reflecting the strong community bond and shared spiritual values.
The Field Engineer Brigade's Vesak Festival Celebration was a meaningful and well-coordinated event, embodying the essence of the Buddha’s teachings and the values of the service, discipline, and unity.
