CORPS OF SRI LANKA ENGINEERS BIDS FAREWELL TO OUTGOING COLONEL COMMANDANT MAJOR GENERAL LANKA AMARAPALA RWP RSP ndc psc

The Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers ceremoniously bade farewell to its outgoing Colonel Commandant, Major General Lanka Amarapala RWP RSP ndc psc, on Sunday, 22nd June 2025. The event, held with full military decorum at the Regimental Centre in Panagoda, marked the conclusion of a distinguished chapter of leadership and service.

Major General Lanka Amarapala served as the 23rd Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers from 22nd May 2024 to 22nd June 2025. During his tenure, he rendered unwavering and exemplary service to the Sapper family, earning admiration as a respected leader, visionary mentor, and officer of exceptional character.

Upon his arrival, the senior officer was warmly welcomed by the Centre Commandant, Brigadier F Joseph USP, and was honoured with a traditional Guard Turnout at the main entrance. In a moving tribute to the fallen, he laid a floral wreath at the Regimental Monument, reflecting his deep reverence for the sacrifices of the Corps’ war heroes.

Following this, a Ceremonial Parade was presented at the parade square, symbolizing the Corps’ respect and gratitude for his leadership. Major General Lanka Amarapala then posed for official group photographs with Sapper officers to commemorate the occasion.

The ceremonial events were followed by a tea at the Warrant Officers’ and Sergeants’ Mess, and an All Ranks lunch at the Other Ranks’ Mess, providing an opportunity for all members of the Corps to extend their well wishes and gratitude.

The day’s proceedings concluded with a dignified farewell dinner, attended by Sapper officers and their spouses. During the evening, Major General DKSK Dolage USP nps psc, Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, delivered a heartfelt farewell address, paying tribute to Major General Lanka Amarapala’s visionary leadership and lasting contributions to the Corps.

In his response, Major General Lanka Amarapala conveyed his sincere appreciation to all officers and other ranks for their steadfast support, loyalty, and camaraderie throughout his military career. He expressed deep gratitude for the guidance and encouragement he received from his seniors, peers, and subordinates, support that helped shape his journey to becoming the 46th Deputy Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army.

The outgoing Colonel Commandant also took the opportunity to pay tribute to the fallen heroes who fought shoulder to shoulder in the quest to restore peace in the country. He expressed his pride in being part of the victorious Sri Lanka Army, and remembered with reverence those who were wounded or paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to the nation.

He remarked that the strength of the Corps lies in its unity, professionalism, and unwavering spirit of service, and expressed his confidence that with continued teamwork and shared commitment, the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers will achieve even greater milestones in the years to come.

This dignified farewell marked not only the conclusion of an exemplary tenure but also celebrated the enduring legacy of a leader who dedicated his life to the service of the nation and the upliftment of the Sapper community.
