A special tri-service contingent from Sri Lanka, comprising personnel from the Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Navy, and Sri Lanka Air Force, was deployed to Myanmar to assist in Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations following a recent disaster that caused significant devastation. The deployment underscores Sri Lanka’s steadfast commitment to regional solidarity and its readiness to support neighboring nations during times of disaster situations.
The contingent was led by Brigadier H K P Karunathilaka RSP, Commander Field Engineer Brigade, who was appointed as the Second in Command of the contingent. He was joined by Major K W K R Jayasinghe RSP psc SLE. Both officers are proud be Sapper Officers of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, a regiment renowned for its technical expertise and operational excellence in disaster management and engineering support. Their leadership and experience are expected to play a pivotal role in the success of the relief efforts on ground.
The contingent departed for Myanmar on Saturday, 05th April 2025 for the mission. This deployment not only strengthens the long-standing friendship between Sri Lanka and Myanmar but also highlights the professionalism and preparedness of Sri Lanka’s armes forces and particularly the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, in contributing to international humanitarian operations.
