Colonel L W B Ridimahaliyada USP IG formally assumed duties as the 12th Officiating Commander of the 542 Infantry Brigade on 16 March 2026 at the Brigade Headquarters, amidst military formalities.
The assumption of duties ceremony commenced with a Guard Turnout accorded to the incoming Brigade Commander at the Brigade Headquarters premises. Thereafter, Colonel Ridimahaliyada officially took over duties by signing the official document, symbolizing the formal acceptance of responsibilities as the Commander of the 542 Infantry Brigade.
Following the formal proceedings, the newly appointed Brigade Commander planted a sapling, marking the commencement of his tenure while symbolizing growth and sustainability.
The day’s programme continued with an address to the troops, during which the Brigade Commander emphasized the importance of discipline, professionalism, and collective commitment in accomplishing the mission and responsibilities entrusted to the Brigade.
The series of formalities concluded with an All Ranks Tea, providing an opportunity for officers and soldiers to interact with the newly appointed Brigade Commander.
The event was attended by Commanding Officers of under command battalions, Staff Officers, and Other Ranks of the 542 Infantry Brigade.
