NEW GENERAL OFFICER COMMANDING OF THE 56 INFANTRY DIVISION ASSUMES DUTIES

10 November 2025 - Major General S A U A Solangaarachchi RSP ndc psc, a distinguished senior officer of the Sri Lanka Army, assumed duties as the 31st General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 56 Infantry Division during a dignified ceremony held at the Division Headquarters in Kokeliya, Vavuniya.

Upon his arrival, the newly appointed General Officer Commanding was accorded a ceremonial Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honor parade, followed by a traditional welcome extended by the under-command Brigade Commanders, staff officers, and troops of the 56 Infantry Division.

Following the formal welcome, Major General Anuruddha Solangaarachchi participated in a series of religious observances to invoke blessings for his new appointment. Then he officially assumed office by signing the formal document, symbolizing the occasion of his assumption of command. To mark this significant event, he also planted a sapling symbolizing growth and prosperity and posed for a group photograph with the Division staff.

Later, addressing the gathering, the new General Officer Commanding outlined his vision and strategic direction for the Division, emphasizing professionalism, discipline, and unwavering commitment to duty. The officers and other ranks of the 56 Infantry Division then hosted a tea arrangement in honour of the newly appointed GOC, followed by a briefing session conducted by the staff officers on the Division’s operational responsibilities and the prevailing situation in the area of responsibility.
