59 Infantry Division Marks World Children’s Day with School and Nursery Programs

In line with the World Children’s Day celebrations on 1st of October 2025, the 59 Infantry Division organized a series of community outreach programs across several schools and nurseries in the Mullaitivu area.

The programs were conducted under the guidance of Major General D R N Hettiarachchi RWP RSP USP, General Officer Commanding of 59 Infantry Division and staff, with the primary objective of supporting the education and overall wellbeing of children in Mullaitivu District. These initiatives not only provided valuable educational assistance and welfare support, but also created a platform to nurture the next generation with care and encouragement. At the same time, the programs served as a bridge to strengthen civil military relations, fostering mutual trust, understanding, and cooperation between the armed forces and the local community.

These initiatives were designed to celebrate the importance of children as the nation’s future, while also extending educational support, welfare assistance and recreational opportunities to uplift their wellbeing. During the events, school children received essential educational items including school bags, stationery, food packs and other supplies. In addition, activity sessions were organized to create a joyful and engaging atmosphere for the children. Books were also donated to school libraries to further encourage reading habits and academic growth.

The initiative was warmly welcomed by school authorities, parents, and the local community, who expressed their sincere appreciation for the continued efforts of the 59 Infantry Division, Infantry Barged and under command Battalion in supporting of children’s education and welfare. Their positive response reflected not only gratitude for the tangible assistance provided, but also recognition of the Division’s long-term commitment to nurturing young minds and uplifting the standards of education and wellbeing in the Mullaitivu area. Such initiatives have further strengthened the bond of trust and cooperation between the military and the civilian population.
