The 54 Infantry Division, under the Security Forces Headquarters (Wanni), successfully conducted an awareness programme on Workplace-Based Drug Prevention on 25 September 2025 at the 8 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment and on 26 September 2025 at the 54 Division Headquarters.
This initiative was launched on the direction of the General Officer Commanding, 54 Infantry Division, Major General A M C Abeykoon RWP RSP USP ndc, who, with his farsighted vision, recognized the increasing vulnerability of soldiers to the menace of drug abuse and the urgent need for preventive education.
The lecture was delivered by Mrs. Inusha Hettiarachchige, Drug Education and Information Officer of the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board. She covered key areas including.
• The definition and classification of drugs
• Micro and macro-level risk factors contributing to drug addiction
• Harmful consequences of drug use
• The detrimental impact of drug abuse within workplace environments
A total of 25 Officers and 280 Other Ranks participated, gaining valuable knowledge that is expected to contribute positively to safeguarding health, maintaining discipline, and enhancing professional commitment across the Division.
The event was meticulously organized under the supervision of the Commander, 542 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier A R W C Asurasingha RWP RSP USP, with coordination support from the Civil Affairs Officer, 542 Infantry Brigade, Lieutenant Colonel W A N D Jayasundara VIR.
