A week-long badminton tournament, organized under the guidance of the Commander Security Forces (Wanni) and with the patronage of the Commander 56 Infantry Division, successfully concluded on August 31, 2025, at the Indoor Stadium of the Omanthai Sports Complex.
The tournament brought together Army players representing battalions and brigades under the 56 Infantry Division, along with participants from schools and civil sports clubs in the Vavuniya District. Conducted under the close supervision of the Commander 563 Infantry Brigade, with the support of all subordinate brigades and battalions, the event aimed to foster sportsmanship while strengthening civil-military cooperation in the region.
Preliminary rounds were held over three consecutive days across nine categories, drawing enthusiastic participation. The Army fielded 16 officers and 30 other ranks across five categories, while the civil sector was represented by 19 male and 15 female players from local schools and sports clubs, who competed in four categories.
The finals featured highly competitive matches in the Under-40 Doubles, Over-40 Singles, Men's Doubles (Open), and Women's Singles (Open) categories. At the conclusion, 25 players were recognized as champions and runners-up, proudly receiving medals and certificates for their outstanding performances.
The grand final event was graced by the Commander Security Forces (Wanni), the Commander 56 Infantry Division, senior officers, and more than 170 Army personnel, along with 70 civilian spectators. Their presence underscored the strong spirit of community and mutual respect nurtured through this initiative.
This successful tournament not only showcased exceptional badminton talent but also further strengthened the enduring bond between the Army and the people of the Vavuniya District.
