Major General A M C Abeykoon RWP RSP USP ndc, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 54 Infantry Division, undertook an official visit to the Headquarters of the 542 Infantry Brigade, the 4th Battalion of the Gajaba Regiment (4 GR), and the 8th Battalion of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (8 VIR) on 30 June 2025.
Upon his arrival, the GOC was warmly welcomed by Brigadier A R W C Asurasingha RWP RSP USP, Commander of the 542 Infantry Brigade. In honour of the visiting senior officer, a ceremonial guard turnout was presented by the troops of 8 VIR.
During the visit, the General Officer Commanding addressed the troops, articulating his vision and offering valuable insights, motivation, and guidance for their future duties. In his address, he emphasized the critical importance of discipline, dedication, and unwavering commitment to duty in all military endeavors.
Following the address, Major General A M C Abeykoon graciously penned his remarks in the Visitors’ Book, marking the visit as a significant milestone in the history of the 542 Infantry Brigade.
Subsequently, the GOC inspected both 4 GR and 8 VIR, conducting a comprehensive review of soldiers' accommodation, infrastructure, and other administrative facilities. He also assessed the operational readiness and responsibilities of each battalion within their respective areas.
The visit was attended by Brigadier A R W C Asurasingha RWP RSP USP, Commander of the 542 Infantry Brigade, along with the Commanding Officers of 4 GR and 8 VIR, and staff officers of the brigade.
