Brigadier M.P.N.A. Muthumala USP psc assumed duties as the 29th General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 56 Infantry Division in a ceremony held at the Division Headquarters on 23 October 2024. The event began with a warm welcome by Staff Officers, followed by a Guard Turnout and Parade presented by the troops of the 56 Infantry Division.
After participating in religious observances, Brigadier Nishantha Muthumala officially signed a document to mark his assumption of duties. He then planted a sapling on the premises as a symbolic gesture before posing for group photographs.
Later, the newly-appointed GOC addressed the officers and other ranks, sharing his vision for the division’s future. The event concluded with an All-Rank tea, where senior officers, officers, and other ranks joined together to commemorate the day.
