5TH (V) MECHANIZED INFANTRY REGIMENT DONATESDRY RATION & STATIONARY ITEMS FORSTUDENTS OF NEEDY FAMILIES IN THEWANPIDDI

Upon the sponsorship extended by Mr. Manjula Herath and his associates in Sri Lankan community, Vancouver, British Columbia in CANADA with the coordination of 5th (V) Battalion Mechanized Infantry Regiment organized and donated dry ration & stationary items worth of more than Rs. 300,000.00 among 34 school children of Tevanpiddi Roman Catholic Tamil Maha Vidyala in Mannar. The speciality of the selected students is they are a group of children who doesn’t have either their father or mother due to the various incidents and for their 17 needy families. It was held at morning hours on 11 September 2024 at the school auditorium with the instruction and guidance of commander 54 Infantry Division and Commander 541 Infantry Brigade in line with the 14th anniversary of the 541 Infanty Brigade.

This charity programme was conducted under the patronage of Major General R P A A R P Rajapakshe RSP, Commander 54 Infantry Division and Brigadier B Y C Fernando RWP USP, the Commander 541 Infantry Brigade, Colonel Cood (V) Colonel Nalin Jayasinghe, Lt Colonel KAKS Kodithuwakku USP MIR the Commanding Officer 5th (V) Battalion Mechanized Infantry Regiment and Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks of the battalion With the intention of enhancing the reconciliation programme in the Mannar district.

Officials at the Zonal Education Office, Divisional Education office, Divisional Secretariat Manthai - West, principals of nearby schools, teachers and students of the school witnessed the event.
