54 INFANTRY DIVISION MARKS ITS 14TH ANNIVERSARY WITH A SERIES OF COMMEMORATIVE EVENTS

The 54 Infantry Division celebrated its 14th Anniversary on 10 September 2024 at the Division Headquarters, under the leadership of Major General R P A R P Rajapaksha RSP, the General Officer Commanding 54 Infantry Division.

To coincide the 14th Anniversary there were series of religious activities including Hindu, Islamic and Christian to evoke blessings for the Division. Further intra Division sports competitions, including Cricket, Volleyball, and Tug-of-War tournaments held from 27 August to 08 September 2024.

In a thrilling cricket final, the 8 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment emerged as champions whilethe 4 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment displayed their strength and determination by winning both the Volleyball Championship and the Tug-of-War competition. On 08 September 2024 a musical evening arranged to entertain the troops with the participation of GOC and all officers including Brigade Commanders and Battalion COs.

The respective events terminated on 10 September 2024 with a troop address by General Officer Commanding, who praised the troops for their dedication, professionalism, and contribution to the Division’s success and underscored the importance of unity, discipline, and service, qualities that have been at the core of the 54 Infantry Division’s legacy. Afterwards the GOC joined the troops for an All-Ranks lunch, symbolizing the close bonds within the Division and fostering a sense of camaraderie among officers, non-commissioned officers.

In keeping with the Division’s long-standing traditions, the anniversary celebrations concluded with a Bodhi Pooja ceremony held in the evening at the “Manu Vehera” temple, located within the Division premises. This religious event provided a moment of spiritual reflection and gratitude, remembering the fallen war heroes while reminding the soldiers, the importance of inner strength and peace amidst their demanding roles.
