Major General J.P.C. Peiris RWP RSP ndc, Commander Security Forces (Wanni), graced the "SECURITY FORCES HEADQUARTERS (WANNI) COMMANDER’S CHALLENGE TROPHY - 2024"cricket encounter as the Chief Guest on 07 September 2024 at the Municipal Council Ground in Mannar with the participation of all most all the heads of the institutions of government and private sector. The event was a result of a concept foresighted by the General Officer Commanding 54 Infantry Division Major General R P A R P Rajapaksha RSP to uphold and sustain a thriven togetherness in between Mannar communities.
To coincide the Cricket encounter, the prize giving for the winners of band competition among the schools of Mannar district (organized by the 54 Division), donation of sixty gift packs for selected school children consist with school bags, shoes and stationaries and sixty dry ration packs for the selected families of the area also taken place. The generosity for the school children provided by Mr Clive of Bata Pvt Ltd, and Mr Prasad Lokubalasooriya while the dry ration packs sponsored by Rtd Major Birty Perera. Including most reverend Dr Fidelis Lionel Emmanuel Fernando the Bishop of Mannar and religious leaders of the area participated in the event as guests of honour.
The Mannar Falcons emerged as the champions of the cricket encounter while Mannar St Servatius Boys School emerged champions of the band competition. The Commander Security Forces (Wanni) presented the prizes, including the prestigious Security Forces Headquarters (Wanni) Commander’s Challenge Trophy - 2024, to the winning teams. In addition certificates were awarded to the winners and runners ups of the band competition.
The District Secretary of Mannar, Mr. K. Kanakeshwaran; Commander of North Central Naval Command, Rear Admiral Jagath Kumara; SSP Mannar, Mr. Varuna Chandrapala; and a large number of military personnel and civilians were participated and witnessed the encounter. The event concluded with a lunch organized by the 54 Infantry Division, serving to 600 civilians and school children.
Further, Major General J.P.C. Peiris RWP RSP ndc, Commander Security Forces (Wanni), and Major General R P A R P Rajapaksa RSP, General Officer Commanding of the 54 Infantry Division joined to inaugurate the newly constructed RO (Reverse Osmosis) plant to provide purified water for the people of Selvari area, constructed by 11 SLA with the financial assistance of The Shrddha TV in the 543 Infantry Brigade AOR.
