SECRETARY TO THE MINISTRY OF DEFENCE UNVEILS PAGODA AT SAPUMALGASKADA VIHARAYA

The newly constructed pagoda at Sapumalgaskada Viharaya, Bogaswewa,Vavuniaya was declared open on 31August 2024 General Kamal Gunaratne (Rtd) WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc MPhil, the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

Upon arrival, the Chief Guest was warmly welcomed by Major General W.P.A.D.W Nanayakkara RSP VSV USP ndu, the Commandant of Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Forces, along with Major General J P C Peiris RWP RSP ndc Commander Security Forces (Wanni) and General Officer Commanding of 56 Infantry Division. The welcoming procession included a traditional dancing group, adding a cultural touch to the ceremony.

The highlight of the event was the unveiling of the Sapumal pagoda’s (Sapumal Vehera) pinnacle and ‘Dana Salawa’ by the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence amidst pirith chanting by the maha sangha, including Galgamuwe Shanthabodhi Nayaka Thero, the Chief Incumbent of the Sapumalgaskada Viharaya. Following this, the Defense Secretary and other Invitees Offering flowers to the newly constructed SapumalVehera at the premises.

Senior Officer/Officer, Other Ranks of the Security Force (Wanni), member of “Boshath Paramitha Padanama’’, member of the “Sasunketha Aaswaddamu” organization and Villages of the Padviya, Bogaswewa, Namalgama, Nandimithragama and Salalihinigama and many pilgrimages of the Island participated in the event.
