The annual foot pilgrimage, coinciding with Good Friday in the Catholic tradition, commenced on 06 March 2024, following a special service held at St. Sebastian's Catholic Church in the Panamkattukottu area of Mannar. On the morning, the procession commenced from St. Sebastian's Catholic Church in Mannar, with the participation of Catholic devotees and priests, and proceeded from the 54 Infantry Division Headquarters area to the 213 Infantry Brigade Headquarters area.
At the conclusion of the foot journey, a special service is scheduled to take place on 08 March 2024, at the Vavuniya Komarasakulam Catholic Church, led by Mannar Bishop Lionel Emmanuel Fernando.
With the instructions of General Officer Commanding 54 Infantry Division, Major General KMPSB Kulatunga RSP ndc psc troops from the 54 Infantry Division Headquarters, including the 542 Infantry Brigade, as well as the 4th Gajaba Regiment and the 8th Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, provided drinking water at various locations to alleviate the fatigue of the devotees.
