Troops of Security Forces (Wanni) Launch Flood Relief Operations

Troops of Security Forces (Wanni) rose to the occasion and promptly facilitated the safe movement of more than 73 civilians, stucked in flooded areas of Periyapannivirichchan East, on 16 December 2023. 542 Infantry Brigade troops of 54 Infantry Division involved in this relief operations and under command battalion of 542 Infantry Brigade, 4 Gajaba Regiment actively took part in the ground operations.

Due to continuing rains in the Northern Province, the water level in Periyapannivirichchan tank has rosen rapidly in the past few days, compelling the authorities to open. The sluice gates in the Periyapannivirichchan reservoir of Mannar District. Due to its impact, a large number of civilians and few villages in the Divisional Secretariat area of Madu were threatened with floods as their areas got inundated causing difficulties.

In view of those difficulties, as per the directions of Commander, Security Forces (Wanni) Major General W P A D W Nanayakkara RSP VSP USP ndu and the General Officer Commanding of the 54 Infantry Division, Commanding officer of the , 4 Gajaba Regiment closely monitored developments and launched some emergency relief operations in affected areas, beginning last Friday (15).
