MAJ GEN W W H R R V M N D K B NIYANGODA RWP RSP USP ndupsc, NEW GENERAL OFFICER COMMANDING 54 INFANTRY DIVISION TAKES OVER DUTIES

Major General Nalinda Niyangoda on Friday,30th December 2022 assumed duties as the new General Officer Commanding, 54 Infantry Division during a brief ceremony at the 54 Infantry Division Headquarters Mannar.

In accordance with military traditions, Major General Nalinda Niyangoda upon arrival at the premises reviewed the Guard Turnout. As the first segment of the day’s proceedings, the incoming General Officer Commanding at the monument in Division Headquarter paid tribute to the memory of fallen War Heroes. Afterwards, he was invited to take the salute of the Guard of Honour, presented by troops of the Gemunu Watch.

Then, Major General Nalinda Niyangoda arrived at his new office to signify the acceptance of his new responsibilities as General Officer Commanding while members of the all religions (Buddhist, Catholic, Islam, Hindu)on invoking blessings.

Afterwards, as the next item on the agenda, the new General Officer Commanding posed for a group photograph with respective Senior Officers and Officers serving under the Division Headquarters before adding memories to the day planted a Mango sapling in the 54 Infantry Division Office Complex.

Setting out his scope of work and duties, the new General Officer Commanding 54 Infantry Division formally addressed all the Officers and Other Ranks serving in the Division and urged them to work with commitment and high standards of discipline. Further, he emphasis the value of training for the development of soldiers. Towards the end of the programme, he shared a cup of tea with All Ranks.

Commanders of 541, 542 and 543 Infantry Brigades, and Commanding Officers, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks were associated with the day’s inauguration of the office.

Major General Nalinda Niyangoda before this new appointment served as the Commandant Sri Lanka Military Academy at Diyathalawa.
