65 DIVISION TAKES THE INITIATIVE TO UPLIFT THE LIVING STANDARD OF THE LOCAL FISHERMEN

In order to uplift the living standard of the local fishermen in the region 65 Division coordinated the releasing of fish hatchlings (small fishes) to regional water tanks in the area under the guidance of General Officer Commanding 65 Infantry Davison Maj Gen Prasad Edirisinghe. In the first phase, there are about 285,000 of fresh water baby fish were released to VAUNILULAM, THENNIYANKULAM AND THERANKANDAL water tanks on 29 and 30 August 2022. A large number of low-income fishermen are immensely benefited from these initiatives.

The National Aquatic and Development Authority - KILLINOCHCHI provided the fish hatchlings and with the sponsorship of Inland Fisheries Unit, Northern Provincial Council and the events were arranged by the Office of Civil Affairs, 65 Division, 10 Sri Lanka Light Infantry and 17 Sri Lanka Light Infantry.

GOC 65 Inf Division graced the events as the Chief Guest and the officers of the division and the battalions, Ms A Ladumeera Divisional Secretary Thunukkai, Mrs Abhirami Balamurali – Director of the Inland Fisheries Unit, Northern Provincial Council, Mr Kumar Sangeetham - Director of Northern Province Ceylon National Aquaculture Development Authority, Mr Mariyadas Maryuru - Assistant Divisional Secretary of Manthai East, Mr Prakash, the Regional Irrigation Engineer, Mallavi also were participated in the events.
