65 INFANTRY DIVISION AOR TROOPS SHARED THE SINHALA AND TAMIL NEW YEAR

Many countries in the world celebrate the New Year in 1st of January. Yet there are several calendars around the world that celebrates different days to welcome New Year. In Sri Lanka, New Year celebrations start on 13th of April and end in 14th of the month. It’s based on the sun’s movement from the Meena Rashiya (House of Pieces) to the Mesha Rashiya (House of Aries) Sri Lankan welcomes the New Year in April with a lot of firecrackers, fireworks and gourmet of traditional sweets.

Sinhala and Tamil New Year Rituals the unique rituals and the traditions are what make Sinhala and Tamil New Year special and memorable.

However the Covid 19 pandemic and the present economic crisis have made a huge impact on almost every sector of the AOR such as agriculture and livestock, welfare, etc..As the true guardians of the nation, sharing the joy and harmony of new years for the direction of General Officer Commanding of 65 Infantry Davison Major General K A Samarasiri RWP RSP USP psc and under the supervision of Commanders 651, 652 and 653 Infantry Brigades troops of 65 Infantry Davison, Brigades and 10 SLLI, 19 SLLI, 24 GR and 17 (V) SLLI Battalions conducted a distribution programme of lunch packetsand new year sweets packets for low income families in 65 Inf Div area on 14th Apr 2022.
