To coincide with the 72nd Anniversary of the Sri Lanka Army, a newly - constructed house was vested to a needy family of Mrs P Wijendrani in Maruthodai, Nedunkerni on 10th October 2021 under the patronage of Major General Upali Gunasekara RWP USP IG - General Officer Commanding 62 Infantry Division.
The house was constructed by the troops of the 11th Battalion the Gemunu Watch under the supervision of Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Prasad Karunaratna RSP USP, with the guidance of the Brigadier Rohan Medagoda RSP USP psc IG Commander - 623 Infantry Brigade with the financial assistance given by “Dowels” Doctors' Welfare Association, Kandy/Mr. Nalinda Dissanayaka - Business Man/Mr. Dileep Jayakodi - Metal Crusher Owner (Weheratanna)/ Captain Laxman (Rtd)/Mr Ranjula and all officers and Other Ranks of 11th Battalion the Gemunu Watch.
President with two Doctors of “Dowels”, a doctor from Doctors' Association - Kandy, Regional Forest Officer Nedunkerni, Project Engineer - MAGA, OIC Nedunkerni Police Station, OIC Puliyankulam Police Station also took part in the event. At this point, General Officer Commanding of 62 Infantry Division,planted saplings and household items including furniture were given as gifts to the residents.
