54 Infantry Division has arrested 1000 kilograms of Illegal Raw Turmeric with a suspect at around 0400 hours on 13 August 2021 while he was trying to transport the turmeric haul under the guise of transporting rice bags by a Isuzu lorry via Army Road Block established by 7th Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment troops near Mannar Island entry exist point. The Raw Turmeric haul is of a market value of approximately 6 Million rupees and believed to have been smuggled from India.
The arrested turmeric and suspect with vehicle have been handed over to the Mannar police station for further investigations.
Troops under command to 54 Infantry Division have been very active in curbing illegal activities in the Mannar District specially deterring the smuggling of Turmeric and Kerala Cannabis from other countries.
