54 Infantry Division has arrested 1000 kilograms of Illegal Raw Turmeric with two suspects at around 0550 hours on 11 August 2021 while they were trying to transport the turmeric haul by a Bolero Cab via Army Road Block established by 15 (V) GW troops in Madawachchiya Mannar road (A 14). The Raw Turmeric haul is of a market value of approximately 6 Million rupees and believed to have been smuggled from India.
The arrested turmeric and suspects with vehicle have been handed over to the Madhu police station for further investigations.
Troops under command to 54 Infantry Division, have been very active in curbing illegal activities in the Mannar District specially deterring the smuggling of Turmeric and Kerala Cannabis from other countries.
