Due to the heavy rain caused by the Monsoon Season and weather condition, general area Mallavi, Vaunikulam tank was spilled last week with acquisition of social festival fun for the area people. Therefor Jaffna,Vauniya, Mannar, Mulathiuv and Klinochchi Districts general public got used to get fun with the tank spilling especially in the evening.
At around 1630 hrs, four civilians from Selvepuram village toppled in to the tank (father- 38 years old,son -12 years old ,daughter- 02 years old and neighboring boy- 12 years old.) whilst on their way to visit the spill of Vaunikulam tank along the tank bund by Mahendran Bolero Single Cab. One boy ( name– Rasendranperin, age – 12 yrs) narrowly escaped and others sunk in todeep water with the vehicle.
As soon as 10 Sri Lanka Light Infantry troops received the message from the Commander 652 Infantry Brigade Search and Rescue Team with the Commanding Officer - Sri Lanka Light Infantry rushed to the place and able to find one dead body of the boy (name- Sanjeewan, age – 12 yrs). Subsequently with the support of fisherman they were able to take out the vehicle from the water. Then the direction given by Major General D M T Dissanayaka RSP USP General Officer Commanding 65 Infantry Division with the supervision of Commander 652 Brigade Brigadier H M U Herath RWP USP psc , 10 Sri Lanka Light Infantry troops with the assistance of Commando diving team (3 Commando Regiment) had taken lot of effort and difficult search during darkness to rescue affected people. Commando divers found two dead bodies and completed the mission at around 0025 on 20 Dec 2020. The villagers and other government institutes highly appreciated the dedicated and commendable support given by the Army.
